Psychological Counseling
Frequently Asked Questions about Psychological Counseling
Here you will find answers to the questions that most often come up before the first session. If anything is still unclear, we are happy to talk it through together.
Fundamentals
What is psychological counseling with an analytical approach?
For me, psychological support means trying to understand together what is happening internally. By an analytical perspective, I do not mean judging or “analyzing” a person, but rather understanding psychological connections, inner patterns, and emotional processes together.
I do not provide ready-made answers or quick solutions. Instead, I support you in understanding your own inner experience more clearly and developing a more conscious connection to yourself.
It is not psychotherapy and does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.
What is the difference between psychological support and coaching?
Coaching is primarily focused on goals, strategies, and achieving results.
Psychological support focuses not only on external changes, but also on a person’s inner world: emotions, inner processes, questions of meaning, and the relationship with oneself. Sometimes the problem is not the absence of goals, but the loss of inner stability or no longer understanding what one truly wants.
It is not about reaching a goal faster, but about understanding yourself more deeply, rebuilding inner stability, and getting to know yourself throughout every stage of change.
Who is this counseling for?
This counseling is for adults who find themselves in inner transitions, moving between external expectations and their own experience, or feeling out of alignment with themselves. It is particularly suited for:
- Major life changes (e.g. migration, new beginnings, midlife)
- Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally empty
- Searching for identity, self-confidence, and direction
- Relationship issues in personal or professional settings
Are there situations where this counseling is not the right fit?
IMPORTANT NOTE
I do not work with acute mental health crises or conditions requiring clinical treatment, such as:
- Severe depressive episodes
- Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders
- Trauma-related disorders
- Suicidal or self-harm crises
In such cases, psychotherapeutic or medical care is necessary. A first point of contact is the Telefonseelsorge (0800 111 0 111, free of charge, 24/7) or the Bavarian Chamber of Psychotherapists (www.ptk-bayern.de).
Process & Settings
How does the counseling work?
Sessions usually take place once a week and last 50 minutes. We arrange a regular time together.
How long the process lasts is different for everyone and often cannot be determined in advance. Some people come with a specific life situation or transition and feel more clarity or inner stability after just a few conversations. Others prefer longer-term support through different stages of life.
After the first two or three sessions, there is usually already a clearer sense of what feels helpful and meaningful at that moment.
Are sessions held online, in person, or as Walk & Talk?
The counseling can take place in different settings:
- In person
- Online via video
- As Walk & Talk-conversations while walking, in a quiet outdoor setting
Who is Walk & Talk counseling suited for?
Walk & Talk tends to work well for people who find it easier to think or talk while moving, or who feel supported by being in nature. The setting is always chosen together, based on your needs and what feels most comfortable for you.
What languages are sessions offered in?
Counseling is available in German, Russian, and English.
Privacy & Framework
Are our conversations kept confidential?
Everything you share with me is held in strict confidence. Exceptions apply only in situations required by law, such as acute risk of harm to yourself or others, or when the safety of a minor is at risk.
What do we do if we cross paths in daily life?
Should we cross paths outside of our sessions, I will not reach out or acknowledge you first. That choice is always yours.
Can I stop the sessions whenever I want?
Yes. You are free to stop at any time, without needing to explain why. When possible, I suggest one or two final sessions to close the process in a meaningful way.
Costs & Organization
What does a session cost?
session fee
Fee upon request.
The exact costs will be discussed during the initial consultation. As a general guideline, psychological support is usually within the range of standard counselling fees. The initial consultation is free of charge.
What happens if I need to cancel?
How to Cancel
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the session.
Sessions cancelled at short notice will be charged.
What if I am unsure whether this is right for me?
You donot need to arrive with a clear sense of what’s wrong. If something simply doesnot feel right anymore, that is enough to begin. In our first conversation, we will find out together whether this is the right kind of support for you.
Is there a cost for the first conversation?
No. The first conversation is a free, 20–30 minute call with no obligation. We use the time to find out together whether this kind of support feels right for you — no commitment needed.
If you still have questions — the first conversation is the right place for them.
I look forward to meeting you and seeing together whether this is the right path for you.
